Now these guys really know how to serve 'Fast-Food' . Thats pretty impressive.
I came here one night with the gang and decided to have a bite. I ordered my usual Southern fried chicken steak with mash potatoes, tasty and just about right. The staff were pretty attentive and accommodated 9 of us easily.
They're very fast with the water and split our bill easily.
The only thing I can complain about is the prices and the automatic 18% gratuity. What the hell? This isnt the Ritz dude. For these prices I would have had a great meal and a fancy drink just by the Three Seasons restaurant a block away from the Creamery.

We were starving! So the gang decided to meet up at this restaurant after having a drink at a nearby "happy" swimming pool. We had a group of 9, or actually 8 - since one of us just felt like walking around.
As soon as we walked in, the service was great. Immediately, the waiters put tables together and accommodated our group. All of our food also came out pretty quick. My fish and chips were just right...they sure hit the spot.
When I went to the bathroom next to the bakery, I noticed that the enormous fresh-baked pies were about an arms-length away from the bathroom door. They looked scrumptious, but being so close to the bathroom kinda put a damper on it.
This "blast from the past" restaurant was loud and festive....and I'm sure we made it louder. The popular milkshakes are on my next visit list.

Despite being in the company of Richie Cunningham (aka Dennis O) and the Fonz (Brandon H), Happy Days was not happening for some of us tonight.
Walter P: I want something filling. How many short ribs are in an order?
Waitress: Lots...and lots...
Walter P: Good. I'm hungry.
She must have said "for tots", because when I glanced over, he was already done and feeding off Bobby L's fish and chips.
Everything else on the table was pretty good - southern baked chicken, turkey dinner, and breakfast steak, plus the sandwiches looked good, too. Just stay away from the short ribs.

The World According to Noelle
~Allergic Girl's Guide to Life~

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been going here with my family and friends since I was a little girl. Good All American 50's Diner food. Solid 5 stars. Walking through the doors of "The Creamery" as referred to by locals is like going back to the "Good Old Days". Comfy booths, old fashioned candy for sale adorning the cash register area, authentic diner decor- could anyone want more?
Yesterday, I had dinner here with my friend Randy. After a long day at work I was looking forward to dinner @ one of my favorite local spots. I got to play passenger on the way to Palo Alto. On the radio was the Giants game. I went out on a limb and asked Randy if we listen to 96.5, he replied the Giants game is going to start. I looked at him and said, "Ok." My friends like the radio station 96.5 as much as they like my mad driving/parking skills.
Randy:
Okay, Noelle. We'll listen to regular music.
Noelle:
No, no, no. Its okay, I don't want you to miss the Giants game-
seriously no problem.
Randy:
We'll listen to music.
The mark of a good man friend is someone willing to listen to music and forgo the listening of the Giants game. I love your NANO. The first song that came up on was 'Won't Go Home Without You' by my favorite group Maroon 5.
Cue the song:
Won't Go Home Without You, Maroon 5

Noe's Order:
Egg Salad sandwich- they make the best ESS ever! I had it on sourdough with fries and a lemonade.
Randy's Order:
Meatloaf sandwich with Jack cheese on wheat with fries. It was perfectly cooked but the meatloaf was bland.
The Palo Alto Creamery also serves: Breakfast House Specials, Breakfast Side Orders, Appetizers available all day, Dinner Entrees after 4 p.m., Sandwiches, Soups, Chili, Salads, Burgers and last but not least Fountain Drinks! They also have soup and half sandwich combos on the menu. All sandies are served with a choice of hand-cut fries (delish), potato salad, coleslaw or green salad.
My sis totally recommended the Pineapple Malt, but it was not available as its not in season and I didn't want to go for the non-seasonal version. Randy and I shared the Mint Oreo Malt Milkshake- most definitely yum to the oooooh on this one!
Here is the "LIST" for their yum to the ooh Malt Milkshakes:
Burgundy Cherry Strawberry
Cookie Dough Mango
Heath Bar Krunch Mint Chip
Mocha Almond Fudge Peppermint Fudge
Brownie a la Mode Coffee
Oreo Cookie Vanilla
Oreo Cookie Mint Chocolate
Peanut Butter Cup Pralines and Cream
*Seasonal Fruit Flavors- like Pineapple!
Noe's FUN facts:

Noelle's Notes:
Great All American Diner food at its best.
Mint Oreo Malt Milkshake- a must try!

Yes, I'm a fan! It's weird how I will compare all other milkshakes to the Creamery. It's all about taste, texture, and the amount that they give you. There's probably some other factors, but let's start off with just 3. First off, I've had the Cookies 'n Cream and Strawberry flavors. So, if you enjoy these flavors, this is the place to read.
The cnc, extra thick (you could ask for it extra thick), was a sweet, like it was ice cream in a cup, but not type. Well, you can't sip it through a straw because it's too darn thick. So, use the spoon...I know I do. The amount of MILK..shake (brings all the boys to the yard) was tummy-filling. Ehh, just thinking about it makes me either want another, or slouch over because my stomach is weighing me down.
The strawberry had bits of strawberry, so I know that the milkshake is/was fresh. It was definitely not too sweet, but at the same time it hit the hangy ball. Yum. I don't usually get the strawberry extra thick. There are some add-ons, but I just stick to that.
There are over 10 different flavors...drooling yet?
I've always enjoyed the service at the Creamery. They're quick, energetic, and polite. Telling you this, I've only been to the Creamery after 4pm. I've never been there for breakfast or early lunch shifts. The gentlemen always knew when to show up, and since the place is small, it's easy to flag them down. They're always attentive. Kudos for that.
I've eaten burgers, spaghetti, chicken tenders, fries, salad, steaks here. They're all above average, but not perfect...what is perfect. Cream Puffs are perfect (my opinion, my last meal on Earth) I've gotten each entree multiple times (dang, how many times have I been here) The burgers are burgers, no pos/neg about that. The spaghetti was yum, not too watery, and they give you like a full plate -sigh- i'm getting hungry. I've had the chicken tenders twice and I liked them. The somewhat crunchy outside isn't crispy at all, but I can't explain it. The batter they use or whatever they use separates the taste from other places I've been. The french (haha, they lost the 4 x 100m Individual Medley to USA) fries are great. So many different sizes and different textures. I won't eat the thick one's. I'll eat the medium to small size that look crunchy. Yes, I'm a crunchy french fry eater. Salad is salad and the steaks are cooked a little more than what you ask, but they come in sandwiches.
I recommend you try this place. DO NOT forget to order a milkshake.
OK I had no idea there were TWO Palo Alto Creamery restaurants within 2 miles of each other! Went here on a warm summer evening two weeks ago. The place is less crowded and feels a little dingier than the one at Stanford Mall, more like a Mel's.
The service was great, and the food was decent and certainly filling. We were famished so we somehow finished off the lion's share of a turkey club, an arugula salmon salad and then split an ice cream sundae.
I've yet to actually get a burger at either creamery so based on Michaela's suggestion I will have to try it, but I still thought it was a halfway decent Reuben here.

My favorite place to go. This is mainly because they have an AMAZING NY steak sandwich and tasty milkshakes. They make their own ice cream (or so I've heard) and if you like chocolate as much as I do, you'd get their Brownie a la mode milkshake extra thick. They also have a great bakery with cookies, pies, muffins and bread. I love their brioche bread which is sweet and thick and is great for breakfast toast.
the burgers here are really good and the milkshakes top it off. The chocolate malt one is one of my favorite kinds they have there.
The pies are really good to and the booths are comfy.
for breakfast i like french toast. Brekfust is served all day so if you want eggs and bacon you can get that. You always leave stuffed. I went there with my sister and her friend once and we had a really creepy waiter.
other than that its a nice place.
Hubster and I have done breakfast and dinner here a couple times and have been pleased every time. We always sit at the counter since the wait for a table is usually too long. The counter is more fun anyway, the stools spin!
A dizzying array of food options and breakfast is served all day, you can even get mac 'n cheese for breakfast!
Agreed, their milkshakes *are* very good.
Service is always really pleasant and efficient, just a cheery homey place.

This is one of the last places to eat in Palo Alto that has the feel of what his town used to be before Big Money arrived. True, the prices here have risen in line with the surrounding businesses, but if you want food that isn't striving to be something it's not, this is the place for you. I was thrilled to see, on last visit, that a vegetable sandwich has been added to the menu (and it is delicious...grilled zucchini, eggplant and pepper with cheese, spinach and sprouts, on a whole grain roll), where, formerly, vegetarians had few choices. (Vegans are still limited, but could eliminate the cheese in the sandwich, or substitute avocado.) The iced tea is good, the coffee just okay. The restaurant at the shopping center is tiny and nearly always packed and stuffy, but the outdoor patio is very pleasant in warm weather.
Before I stopped eating meat, I used to love the juicy patty melts here. Their tuna melts are rich and wonderful, and are made with good quality albacore. Very large, very filling, very fattening, but worth it.
The best place to eat in Palo Alto.
Grilled cheese is truly delicious.. not greasy while rivalling the Oasis's grilled cheese. They have pretty good veggie burgers here too although a little on the dry side. Not much else vegetarian, so the food gets a 3 stars.
The milkshakes is what to rave about this place!!!! They have SOOoOOoOOoO many flavors! And they actually make it WITH that flavor ice cream! For instance.. I used to always get a peppermint fudge milkshake. They make it from peppermint fudge ice cream! Highly recommended. Peach is also really really yummy... So is orange cream... =D I come and sometimes just get a milkshake, no food necessary! 5 stars for milkshakes!
I haven't been here since high school, some six odd years ago, and finally ventured back this past Friday. It's nice to see somethings never change. I doubt I can add much to what's already been said, but I'll throw my two cents in regardless.
The bf and I started with an order of the turkey chili and cornbread. The cornbread was as delicious as I remember, but I can't imagine it's all that hard to mess up. The chili wasn't quite as tasty, and was in desperate need of some salt. (Disclaimer: If ever offered as a menu item I would, without a doubt, order a salt lick as an entree. So, if you prefer your dinner with a little less sodium, you may like this just fine.)
For dinner, we both had the California burgers, isn't that sweet, which were an avocadoey mess of deliciousness. The patty could have had a little more seasoning, but the fries more than made up for it. Seriously delicious. The bf's vanilla shake was also four stars, thick and creamy, and nearly a meal in itself. Honestly, you might as well just come here for the shakes. Yum!
I haven't had a chance to venture to the nearby 'Counter,' which I hear serves up burgers TO DIE FOR, but until then the Creamery will remain a reliable stand-by. Perfect for out of town guests, and those with a little need for nostalgia. And milkshakes.
Milkshakes & Memories
Milkshakes are pricey but classic and real. The Vanilla Shake is liquid enough to slurp up right away yet remains rich and creamy in taste. Create your own special by adding a bit of malt, chocolate or even an egg to your shake. Besides the tasty shakes, the other draw is this is a true authentic diner which has been here since the 1920's. From the decor to the counter candy jars it's a step back in time which I'm glad has actually survived. When I was in middle school we would come here after class for Fries and a Milkshake, and those memories are priceless.
I loved it, I can't WAIT to go back....was there about a year ago. I am going again this weekend....hopefully. can't wait. And I think I'll take a pie home too.

So besides the great burgers,
the great pies,
the AMAZING FATTY SHAKES,
the silly candy at the register,
the diner feel,
did you know they serve a solid breakfast?
Yes...they serve up an amazing BRIOCHE FRENCH TOAST with fresh fruit and all the trimmings! My belly was happy, and indeed love the fresh OJ.
Since my recent obsession with "Back to the Future pt.1," I realized PC has the same feel, look, and style of the joint in the movie. I was reliving, and I didn't even know it. WOO HOO!

Killer milkshakes. KILLER. Pick a flavor, they have tons.

Minus one star for being on the pricey side.

We usually come at 7:30am, right after work. Staff is friendly and very attentive. Small town feel with urban prices. Smoked salmon omlet is my fav but they don't always have it. Raspberry jam with whole wheat toast is the bomb. Now only if they would serve bloody marys...
I feel like I have a favorite meal there but when I actually get there I have no idea what to get. EVERYTIME! Their milkshakes are amazing - peppermint anything is good pretty much. Their breakfasts stand out, basically anything off the breakfast menu is guaranteed to satisfy your breakfast craving. I haven't tried enough of their dinner or lunch entrees, but their buffalo wings are good too.
Whenever I'm in the mood for a milkshake and some breakfast, the Creamery's my best bet in Palo Alto.
I came here very, VERY hungover. Does that sound familiar?
ANYWAYS, breakfast here was awesome, I had the brioche french toast and decided to steal whatever was off the plates of my friend/and the guy I made out with the night before. They're choices in food = not so much. Which is why I haven't talked to said guy in 6 months.
BUT, when we went it was like the geriatric ward of the hospital went out on a field trip. Were we really up that early??
4 stars for old people making inappropriate conversation uncomfortable.

After exclaiming that I love old diners, my darling BF took me here. =) 5 stars for the dbf.
The waitress was cute and sweet. She encouraged me to try the soup of the day, which was artichoke and lemon. Do try - it's yummers!! DBF polished off half of it tho. Minus one star for the DBF. Boo hiss.
Was feeling pretty plain today so I ordered a plain turkey sandwich on wheat. Whew! Can you say "ji-normous"?!?!? I took half of it home, along with half of the yummy handcut fries. I probably shoulda been dollied outta there. *burp*
DBF ordered onion rings and a french dip sandwhich. Both were super good. Oh!... and there's no cherry coke here. They actually serve REAL Roy Roger's here. Yippie skippy!!
I love the old school decor. I think next time I'll have to go in for a hangover breakfast or the $200 burger!
I think the only thing would be the price. $2.75 for so-so iced tea? $7.00 for a milkshake? Eh.... I'm not gonna lie, I'll still be back. hehe.

I bet none of you yelpers, including the ones that have been and reviewed about this South Bay's classic diner, remembered that the Food Network's show: "The Best of" (with Marc Silverstein and Jill Cordes). That episode had an episode with 50's diners from three US Cities including this Palo Alto's classic and a popular hangout for Stanford Students that specialized in Ice Cream, Milk Shake, and other classic American cuisines.
From that episode, if memory serves me correctly (Iron Chef's and Chairman Kaga's catchphrase), an OG has been drinking the diner's classic milkshake everyday since the grand-opening in the mid-1950s. Just looking at him drinking the milkshake on television has inspired me to try this place. And ever since that now-classic popular Food Network show and episode, this Palo Alto creamery has been one of my personal bookmarked locations, even before I became a yelper.
After a long wait, I finally came to this classic and lively diner and decided to check out the famous milkshake. I also had Kelis' "Milkshake" song bumpin' in my ride. Her classic jam also motivates me and hopefully hoping the trip was well worth it. (Don't ask me to shake my body like her. I guarantee you it won't be pretty and attractive).
No, I wasn't like Kelis dancing and strutting her chassis around. But I did felt like that "Old timer" from the show sitting on the counter table by myself and ordering one of their shakes: French Vanilla. For $4.50, the thick-ass shake has the mixture of milk and their-own flavored ice cream made in their powerful "outboard motor-like" blender. After the quick stir, I got my milkshake very quickly in front of me. One sip of that shake, damn I was in heaven and drank a piece of history from the Food Network-show.
Fifty years from now, I would like to be that regular OG and drink Palo Alto Creamery's milkshake every day and eat their classic foods in the very near future. And from Matt G's point of view, hopefully I'll be that vibrantly inspirational class!

I LOVE the CREAMERY.
When my friends and I seen it on tv a couple years ago...I think Bay area back roads we went that day.
LOVE it. TRY IT!
A must have if your in the bay area.
Sometimes on Saturday night can be a tad busy but if you don't mind sitting at the counter you'll always have a seat!
Love love love their milkshakes and malts. The chocolate banana milkshake has to be one of my favorite milkshakes of all time. Also, their seasonal pumpkin milkshake is out of this world.
Love their burgers as I order the atomic burger about 99% of the time.
Always disappointed by their wings though and have stopped ordering them anymore.
The MOST FUN thing is when you get a booth for 2 on the left side of the restaurant right behind the diner bar. You are actually sitting at a booth for 4 with a divider up, making for 2 booths for 2. Soooo when you are about to sit down and there is a couple sitting down on the other side of the divider make sure you sit down with authority, practically leaving your feet all together. You give the person on the other side a nice little surprise bounce. Always a good time!

I've had many a meal here, so I am not going to focus on one specific plate. The shakes are more ice cream than milk, which is a great treat. The hashbrown pie (bacon, tomatoes, chives, etc) with eggs and toast is a serious breakfast, and seriously good, though the toast is too thick or not toasted enough. The cheese burgers will do you just fine, always coming with grilled onions, though the fries are a bit disappointing. I always find the place a bit too expensive for my tastes, but, objectively speaking, it makes sense. Very solid food with no corners cut.

We came here on whim since Rangoon was closed and we couldn't find Mediterranean Wraps for the life of us. Seems the worker on the phone was trying to get us to go to Kan Zeman, their sister restaurant, I assume.
Anyway, I stuck with a plain burger and fries at this retro diner place, specializing in milkshakes. The burger and thick fries were average at best. She had the pulled pork sandwich which was smothered with a sweet bbq sauce. I think the best part was the mustard on the table, really. American food just doesn't get me excited, to tell you the truth.
Instead of a milkshake, we opted for a scoop of Mocha Almond Fudge, which was pretty average as well.
Service was ok, but it felt kinda depressing in there to be honest. Not to mention we were in enemy territory, GO BEARS!!!

Love the chocolate milkshakes! Enjoy hanging here late at night. Otherwise, we aren't huge fans of the food or waiting for slow service.
It's been quite some time since I last visited this place. It wasn't the world's best experience and it had absolutely nothing to do with the restaurant either. I was fearful that the prior visit would shatter my fragile will to enter this restaurant again. But, after having the special of the day, I will never regret coming in again. In fact, I look forward to creating wonderful memories at this place by trying more of its menu offerings!
A brunch at noontime for two was just right. The wait wasn't long and the seating was fine. The place certainly has a bunch of yummy brunch selections. Besides the standard menu offering, they also have specials...which is what I went for.
Now listen to this: French toast encrusted with toasted almost and slathered with peanut butter between layers. Top it off with a rich pool of maple syrup and just how many of us can resist this? I think there were some fruits on top too...for my inner health freak. More maple syrup was available upon request for this lovely invention.
I loved it -- it was delicious but very rich. I can't wait to come back again and try something different!

Once again, a GREAT Yelp find. You guys never let me down!
I don't even remember what I was looking for, but I ran across the reviews for Palo Alto Creamery on Yelp and all the talk about all-day breakfast (I LIVE for breakfast), yummy diner food and pie made me decide to make the 30 minute drive up to PA to try it out this weekend.
It was SO well worth it. Was expecting that we might have to wait a bit with the popularity, but my sister and I got there at 4pm on Saturday and didn't have to wait at all. Grabbed a table by the window (it's seat yourself) and were greeted right away by our waitress, who was super friendly and sweet. I debated on getting my all-time favorite, french toast, but decided on my 2nd all-time fav, grilled cheese. Mmmm.....
Lemme tell ya...I think it's kind of hard to find a "bad" grilled cheese sandwich, but this one was incredible!! They definitely don't skimp on the cheese and the sourdough bread was toasted to perfection. Top that off with a side of yummy potato salad, some pickle slices and a cold lemonade and you've got the perfect meal.
I will agree with a couple of the other Yelpers and say that maybe the prices could be a *little* lower. Our lunch for two came out to $24 with tip...but...I still think it was worth it. You get what you pay for here, in my opinion.
I have yet to try the breakfast or the crazy good sounding milkshakes, but I will DEFINITELY be back for them. Oh, and maybe one of those little old-school Atomic Fireball candies they have at the register, too.... ;-)
Delicious diner. For diners, I generally use the burger & shake combo as my barometer for excellence. This place holds it own against some of the better diners out there, at least in PA.
We were here for breakfast on Saturday. The diner was packed but we lucked out and got two seats at the counter without having to wait. I had pancakes. My friend had scrambled eggs and bacon. The pancakes were really good especially with Vermont maple syrup. The service was fast and very friendly. I would definitely come back.

I haven't been in awhile, but am always happy when i come, best desserts ever!
Nothing beats enjoying a burger and old school shake inside a 1950s diner. It's all about what you order though:
- The burgers are great with lots of topping choices and fries on the side.
- The shakes are wonderful; many flavor choices and they're ultra customizable and come with a generous quantity of ice cream so you can refill your cup. I wish they came in a tall glass though rather than the tiny cup.
It's not cheap, but nothing in Palo Alto is and you won't find a comparable diner in the area.
Ok, now don't deviate from the formula I just described. All of the other food I've had here has been really disappointing. The pies are decent, but nothing special. And how do you screw up an egg? Or toast?
For the basics though, a burger and fries, Creamery is your place.

My favorite part about going to the Palo Alto Creamery was waiting fifteen minutes for the men's room because one of the cooks was in there taking a monster shit (not to get into too much detail, but let's just say it was a "two-flusher" and he only gave it one). This was all the more enjoyable after watching another guy wait fifteen minutes for the same men's room while another employee was unclogging the toilet, presumably as a result of a previous employee's contribution.
Fortunately, the service was so slow that I didn't have to worry about my food getting cold while waiting for the restroom -- even after I got back to the counter, the food took an additional ten minutes or so to arrive. My chicken sandwich was aggressively bland. The green salad was just chopped lettuce, some of which was brown. My wife's fries seemed okay until I found a hair baked into the outside of one. Getting my four-ounce water glass refilled was always a project.
Phooey on you, Palo Alto Creamery.

I know I should like this place.....I'm a Palo Altoian and this is a mainstay in our community.....I've been there several times and today, I am officially giving up......
The owner/Hostess was extrememly irratable, short , and rude to start with. She ended up taking our order for us as well.....I ended up with the wrong item.....Our actual waitress rolled by twice to ask if I would like more coffee......Both times I said "Yes, please" Neither time did I get any coffee....
If this was just a one time experience, I would write it off and give it another shot,....But everytime I go there the service is bad to horrible. The food is typical coffeshop fare but nothing really special. The milkshakes are pretty good....
But I'm officially done.....no more Peninsula Creamery for me. I hope a new breakfast place pops up in downtown soon!
always great! always a treat! the milkshakes are the best! i can't comment on ALL the food, but everything that i have had is tasty, tasty! i love coming here...
Just thinking about this place makes me want to jump in the car and drive down there right now. We went here with a group of 6 people for a late breakfast. FYI 18% gratuity is already added when you dine with 6+, but they are very clear about this which I think is considerate. Most places seem to be hush hush about these charges.
The decor is very pleasant and authentic of a 50's diner. I believe I read somewhere that this place has only been around since '88. Could have fooled me!
The hubby and I shared a Corned Beef Hash plate served with two eggs overeasy, potatoes and sourdough toast. This was THE BEST CBH I've ever eaten. I ordered this because it is my brother's favorite breakfast item and he is coming to visit soon. It is always good to know a good breakfast place for when company comes to town and so far we had not found one here. (Hobees, Country Gourmet & Mike's Cafe - Meh). I was so impressed with the hash that I actually called to tell my brother about it. I'm excited to take him. He will be in heaven. The corned beef was very fresh, flavorful and meaty - not something out of a can.
We also had a chocolate malt and a coffee. Both were good. Coffee was bottomless as it should be.
Our server was very nice and happy to split the checks. He actually offered this and everything was accurately done. Each person in our group was pleased with the place and all said they would come back again. I can't wait to try the one on High Street as well.
