Went here because I desperately needed an eyebrow wax. When I entered the place was empty yet there was no one at the front desk to greet me. After a couple minutes someone came up and I told them I needed to get my eyebrows done. The lady who did my eyebrows really didn't do a great job--my eyebrows were uneven, there was virtually no arch, and they grew back really fast--all this for $25+!! I have pretty good eyebrows too, so it usually isn't hard to make them look good. Disappointed, not worth the $.

My husband and I have been going to Lucich Intl. for the 5 years we have lived in Palo Alto. Always an excellent hair cut which is typically all we want. We both use Anita and she is very good and nice as well. Recommend her and this salon highly. Only caveat is that it is fairly expensive.
Note: They take MasterCard and Visa, but expect tips in cash.
Maheen at this place is a hidden secret among professional women. She is one of the best colorists in the business from all my travels to Madison Avenue, Los Angeles, SF, Las Vegas, etc. And a hidden bonus is that she works on Sundays so don't grab my appointment!
Now they've just lost the greatest guy Michael. He was joyful and very good. I'd search for where he went to for a great haircut.
In Aug, I stopped in for waxing. My usual place is in the city and I didn't have enough time to get over there so I thought this place looked nice enough from the outside. But I was so wrong. I don't think the lady was very experienced or just really sucked because she left spotches of hair behind, kept going over the same spot multiple times making for a very painful experience and burned my skin leaving me with scabs for the following week. All in all, the worst experience I've ever had. Just wanted to warn everybody else so they don't have the same experience I did. Zero stars for me.
*Minus One Star* Though this is a nice salon in downtown P.A. after several hair cuts, colors, do's and so forth, it does hurt the cash flow a bit. I'm not rich nor poor, but um, whatever happened to something fairly priced? Oh trust me, I don't want to sacrifice price for quality, but it would be nice. *sigh*
Been going to this place for a lil' over a year, though I don't like chopping off my long locks, I eventually have to. My hair starts to get a little bit out of hand and ends up in a pony tail. I went to this salon on account of a friend, who raved about Martha and how she works magic.
The first time I got my hair cut it was so-so, however it's improving. Last time I got a cut and highlights, I loved it! Martha is the lady to see for a great cut and color. :-) She knows how to complement the haircut/color to me!!! Yay for Martha @ Michael Lucich! I recommend making a appointment with her if you want to get her, unless you do what I do, pull a walk in and have to wait. Though she's worth it!

I've been going to Michael Lucich for almost two years, and in that time, my hair has been cut and/or colored by everyone who works there. I have my favorites, and the ones I'd rather avoid, but overall my experience has been great...that said, I have to admit that I am considering having an affair...I just moved a little bit north and there's a place just down the street from my new apartment that I'm excited about trying...
I noticed a couple of people commenting on Michael Yocum being at the salon now...apparently, he works magic with color--he did my highlights once and they were great--but I've been dreading the chance that he might ever cut my hair again.
The one time he did my hair, I'd come into the salon at almost 7:00 and he was still there. After doing the color and shampooing my hair, he busted out the electric shears and asked me number guard I wanted him to use. Oh hell no, biatch. You'd better back the hell up. I have curly hair...you can use a razor...you can use scissors...but you are NOT using electric clippers on my hair.
Manene (spelling) is fantastic and always does an amazing job. Lee has some crazy hair and she kinda looks dazed & confused, but she does an incredible cut...I mean, yeah...it's good. She's also fun to talk about organic foods with...nothing quite like a stylist telling you about harmful pesticides while smathering chemicals on your head.
UPDATE: Went in yesterday for a mani/pedi, Jan wasn't there so I went to someone else, I am really not thrilled with the state of my fingers and toes. There are bubbles in the polish! Unacceptible! Unfortunately I was pressed for time so I didn't insist that she redo them. Also, their "spa" pedicure is lacking, it's pretty much a regular pedicure but you sit in a crappy massage chair, no parifin, no special scrub. So annoying. If Jan is there it's worth a stop for a manicure ONLY, otherwise, don't bother.

Walking down University yesterday afternoon I passed this place and thought "Hey, I need a manicure." so I wandered in and they took me right away (I know, usually not the best sign). I was very happy with Jan, she was gentle, thorough and made sure my nails were exactly the shape I wanted.
Yes, you will pay University Ave/Shallow Alto prices here, but ummm, duh? Note the address people.
1/2 star off for the wierd "Tip in Cash Only" rule. I generally don't carry cash, so that has the potential for causing an embarassing incident.

Went back and had my hair colored. Michael Yocum is amazing!
I used to be an ash blond and I had pretty hair years ago, but it's gotten darker and gray is showing up.
Michael suggested he highlight my hair in golden/red tones to soften the look and it really worked! I've never had auburn/blond hair before, but it suits my complexion and I've gotten a lot of compliments.
I also love the haircut! I wanted to wear my hair longer, but I don't do well with maintenance. He gave me a cut that is easy to manage and looks good all day!
Hats off to this guy! Michael really does know what he's doing when it comes to hair color. Trust his judgment and you can't go wrong!

Wow! How lucky can you get?
Went to Paly last week and I saw Michael Lucich's salon. The name reminded me of my friend's hairdresser, also named Michael. She said he worked in Palo Alto so I checked it out. He's a big, tall white guy and sure enough, it was the same guy.
My hair looked real straggly. I got it cut and highlighted in December, but my hairdresser gave me a bad cut. On impulse I thought ,why not?
Luckily Michael had just finished up with a client so I didn't have to wait.
This guy's like Edward Scissor hands!
I just told him what I wanted my hair to look like when he was done. I've NEVER seen a hairdresser cut hair in such a creative way! When he was done, the look was perfect!
But I'm skeptical ,so I waited until I had to wash and fix my hair before judging. Well, the cut is great! I got the same look with some gel and a curling iron - about 15 minutes - and I'm real lazy about fixing my hair.
This guy gets a gold star!! He said he's also a professional colorist and use to teach other stylists. So I'm going to take a chance on him coloring my hair when I need a touch up in the next few months.
Stay tuned and I'll show you a before and after pic (IF it's good that is!)

Out of desparation to get my haircut on Sunday, and seeing how most salons were closed on Sundays, i decided to give this place a try. Here was my experience. verbatim.
1. walked in and waited for 30 minutes
2. "stylist" motions me over and says "What you want?"
3. She then motions me towards the shampoo area.
4. Washes my hair, pulling really hard on my hair
5. Cuts, pulls, cuts, pulls and then dries my hair in 15 mintues.
Total = $50
Hair Lost = unknown
Result == Overpriced haircut that was at supercuts quality.
Maybe i just caught a bad stylist on a bad day, but im not taking my changes again. I definitely will not return back here for a cut. Ill pay the extra $25 bucks to get humane treatment and also to keep my hair follicles in tact.

I've been getting my haircut here for the last 5 years, starting when I was 24. Anita has always done a great job and as any talented stylist does, you won't leave with the "just sheared" cookie-cutter cut you get at Supercuts. That's what you're paying for. I've lived all over North America and these aren't "Shallow Alto" (har har) prices, they're Bay Area-normalized for any decent haircut apart from Happy Cuts ($7 cuts in Vancouver, BC!)
Otherwise though, I've always gotten the vibe that this is where your mom or grandmother would go to get their hair done. If I were a woman I'd look elsewhere first - based solely on a vibe ;-)
I recently went to this salon for a much-needed haircut (it had been six months and my long, layered hair was a frightening mess of split ends and such). For the price, Michael Lucich does a fine job-- much more attentive and with better results than another local hairdo haunt, Hair International.
One caveat, be sure to bring cash for a tip. You'd think that in this day and age, tacking a tip onto a debit or credit purchase would be second nature. ML apparently thinks differently; I can only imagine what kind of disaster this would bring if you signed up for a really expensive process, like thermal reconditioning. For that, I dock ML 1 star, to 3 out of 5.

Great haircuts and friendly staff. Expert at cutting all types of hair and a wide variety of hair products for purchase.
Based on previous reviews, I decided to go a couple of weeks ago after work. I had been putting off getting a haircut because it's been tough finding a decent place at a decent price. I had an appointment, but the salon was pretty quiet when i arrived around 7pm, so I think I would have been fine as a walk-in. Aziza cut my hair; she was friendly, attentive, and provided suggestions. I went for short in back and on the sides, longer on top --- typical cut for a guy --- and she did a nice job using a combo of scissors and a little bit of clipper to fade the back and sides. It looked good leaving the salon and it still looks good.
Half beauty salon, half hair cuts, this is a good business. I can't speak for the beauty salon side of things, but I can say that i get excellent hair cuts at an affordable price every time. Top of the line hair-care products and friendly staff. For those who don't want to pay exorbitant prices at a salon or get sheared at the barber in Palo Alto, this is your place.
simply the worst!
i noticed all the previous reviews are for hair, so i am only discussing my mani pedi experience... i dislike this place more then any other salon in palo alto because 1) do they intentionally mislead you with their "deluxe" pedicure prices --- they don't have spa and regular pedicures, only regular which they call "deluxe" and charge a fortune for 2) they "forget" to inform you about the prices until after rendering services 3) their pedicures are as terrible as the # 1 nail place on the next block! 4) management is rude, trashy and unprofessional --- and being that I get along with EVERYONE this should mean a ton coming from me.
Note: these people also own the Michael's Gelato place a couple doors down --- I really wish I didn't go there, but I have to admit the gelato is amazing --- although the sandwiches are junk... oh, and don't pay any attention to the sign outside that reads "coffee and a smile" - they rarely do.

I decided to treat myself to color & highlights in an effort to boost my confidence during my job hunt. I came accross the announcement that Michael Yocum is now at Michael Lucich Salon International.
I knew I had come to the right place to be pampered when I was enthuthiastically and warmly greeted by the receptionist who offered me a beverage.
Words can't describe the MAGIC that was created with my heretofore "difficult hair". I asked Michael (Award Winning Master Colorist) for a stand-out yet professional color and style.
Michael went to work and created for me a completely rich blend of tones that play with the light. Who knew the possibilities of hair color & creativity? I've never received so many unsolicited compliments on my hair color and style.
Oh, by the way, I did get offered the job of my choice, I know my hair dazzled them too.
